Dear HHASD Families,
February is often associated with kindness, friendship, and showing care for others. Throughout this school year, perseverance has remained a steady focus across our classrooms and in our work together. This month, we’re framing it in a simple way - perseverance is an act of love. It’s how students show care for their learning, for one another, and for themselves when something feels challenging.
A small moment at home recently reminded me of this. Colin and Amaya loved picking out Valentine’s Day cards for their classmates and, of course, that part was fun and easy! Sitting down to thoughtfully write each card, one by one, took more time and effort… and a few gentle reminders from me to keep going. As the novelty wore off and the sighs started, we paused, took breaks, and stuck with it. It wasn’t the most exciting part, but it was the part that mattered most. They finished knowing those extra moments of care would mean something to others.
That same perseverance shows up daily in our schools, from tackling a tough math problem to practicing a new reading skill, asking for help, or working through a challenge with a classmate. Those moments may not always be the easiest, but they are powerful, and they help our students grow.
As you spend time together this month, consider asking your child about something they’re working hard on, especially when it doesn’t come easily. Thank you for partnering with us as we support our students in learning to stick with things, even when they’re hard and to do so with heart!
Together We Can,
